About

Simar Dugal, a legacy carried on.

Simar Dugal, acclaimed as India's first supermodel, broke stereotypes by walking the ramp after getting married and having a child. Her son, Arjan, was a regular attendee at all her fashion shows and has fond memories of the times he spent backstage. Simar Dugal went on to become the muse for many eminent fashion designers including the likes of Rohit Bal, Ritu Kumar, Tarun Tahiliani and Suneet Varma. Her vibrant personality and penchant for design and fashion is probably best described one of her close friend’s:

“In my last life when one did fashion photography, which included working with some inspiring designers like Ritu Kumar, Rohit Khosla among few others. This also meant shooting brilliant individuals like Shyamoli Verma, Mehr Jesia, Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai and so many other beauties ... But most amazing person I worked in this line of fashion was Simar Dugal. What was so special about Simar? As I recall she was beyond her beauty, her interest in fashion was so much about fabric, the textiles, jewellery and the historical perspective of weaver communities. Basically, these shoots were a learning curve for her and her great interest in the creative process. One day we all retired from that business, she started her own label... and rest is history…”

Simar Dugal's eponymous fashion label, was launched in 2004, in a small corner of Bharat Nagar (Friends Colony) in the heart of South Delhi. The label has now expanded to two Flagship Stores in New Delhi itself, at Bharat Nagar and DLF Emporio respectively and has pan India and global presence. The label is a pure reflection of her personal taste and brings to the fore various Indian textiles and fabrics and is today well known for its use of organic fabrics, digital prints and gota and dabka embellishments.

Post her untimely demise, the label is now helmed by her son, Arjan Dugal who has an established menswear label under his own name. He carries forward and celebrates the memories and legacy of his mother through the Simar Dugal label which is now a true reflection of the duo's relationship and design aesthetic. Today the Simar Dugal label is an amalgam of Simar and Arjan Dugal. It combines the old with the new - the ethereal palette with a new age edginess, the eternal silhouettes with newer, brighter thread embroideries and new age techniques and the elegant treatments of gota and dabka with younger silhouettes.
